Last month I went on a boat tour of the Army Corps of Engineers' storm surge barrier, which is expected to protect New Orleans from storm surges coming from Lake Borgne and the Gulf of Mexico to the east. At two miles long, 25 feet high and $1.1 billion in costs, it's the largest construction project in the state's history.

I'm a week late, but I made a gallery of ten of my favorite pictures from 2009. Instead of a "best of" gallery, these are pictures that I chose because of a story behind them, or because they're a little different. Click here to view the pictures (link opens in a new window).
Also, I'm nearly finished updating my portfolio. It's a work in progress. You can click here to view it.
