I always enjoy shooting postgame pictures. Here are two from the end of the Giants-Saints football game Sunday, which the Saints won 48-27. Saints quarterback Drew Brees was looking for Giants quarterback Eli Manning in a crowd of players and media on the field. As I was shooting Brees, Manning popped up in my viewfinder, emerging from the crowd and reaching for Brees' shoulder. This scene--from Manning's reach to their exchange and goodbyes--lasted less than 6 seconds.

Fort Jackson

Last week I had the chance to visit Fort Jackson, 75 miles southeast of New Orleans near the mouth of the Mississippi River in Plaquemines Parish. Owned by the local parish government, officials there would like to transfer the 150-year-old, hurricane-damaged site to the National Parks Service with the hope of saving the structure and bringing more tourist dollars to the recovering parish.
This story ran in The (Baton Rouge) Advocate, I'll dig up a link soon (front page link above in "In The News" section).

Katrina anniversary

Saturday was the fourth anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, which flooded much of New Orleans. Recent reports estimate that 75% of the city's pre-Katrina population has returned since the storm, but a full recovery will take many more years. For example, not one hospital east of Canal Street, which cuts the city roughly in half, has re-opened. Still, as state and federal rebuilding funds continue to come in, most feel that four years later, the region is finally turning a corner.
